Course 2, Lesson 1, Grammar Notes 7 : Frequency Adverbs

7. Frequency Adverbs

You can add a frequency adverb such as 'mainich (everyday)', 'yoku (often)', and 'tokidoki (sometimes)' to a sentence to describe how often you do something.

watashi wa tokidoki kissaten ni ikimasu. (I sometimes go to a coffee shop.)

In this lesson, we also learn two adverbs which describe how infrequent an activity or an event is;
'zenzen (never; not at all)' and 'amari (not often; not very much)'.

These adverbs anticipate the negative at the end of the sentence. If 'zenzen' or 'amari', in other words, you need to conclude the sentence with 'masen.'

watashi wa zenzen terebi o mimasen. (I do not watch TV at all.)
Takeshi san wa amari benkyou shimasen. (Takeshi does not study much.)

You can also describe your routine activities using time expressions below;

mainichi - everyday
