Dogs Want to Lose Weight, Too!

These days, as pets live longer, health issues such as cancer and high blood pressure are apparently becoming a concern for them just as they are for humans.  Obesity in particular is a problem pets seem to share with people.  Thus I went to ask a specialist at a veterinary clinic about this matter.  The waiting room was filled with expensive-looking paintings and furniture and looked just like a hotel lobby, although it was actually only a hospital.  Many dogs and cats with expressions that seemed to say how much they hated moving were there with  their owners.  I suppose that they got fat because of their lack of exercise, due to not moving their bodies enough.

Each pet first undergoes a series of blood and other tests.  It’s almost like a health checkup for humans.  According to the veterinarian, getting too fat makes pets prone to all kings of diseases.  Although at first I imagined that both the dogs and their owners would be able to lose weight if they took regular walks, apparently exercising too suddenly can be a cause of injury and also be bad for the heart.  Rather, it seems, the important thing is to lose weight by controlling calorie intake.  Once this is done, they will gradually be able to take walks as well.

From what I heard in the waiting room, there are all kinds of different diet foods for  dogs, many of them good tasting, too.
