Warming Up for Te-Form for JBP-1 / Lesson 17

Hello / こんにちは Here's a warming-up session for the "Te-Form" in Lesson 17 of JBP-1.

First, please watch the video clip of Anpan Man that contains lots of verbs in te-form throughout the song.

Here's the translations of each phrase as below;

むすんで/musunde : tighten palms
ひらいて/hiraite : open palms
てをうって/te o utte : clap hands (て means hands)
むすんで/musunde : tighten palms

また ひらいて/mata hiraite : open palms again (また/mata means "once again")
てをうって/te o utte : clap hands
その てを うえに/sono te o ue ni : raise those hands up

むすんで/musunde : tighten palms
ひらいて/hiraite : open palms
てをうって/te o utte : clap hands
むすんで/musunde : tighten palms

また ひらいて/mata hiraite : open palms again
てをうって/te o utte : clap hands
その てを したに/sono te o shita ni : hold those hands down

Now, these are mas-form of above verbs as follows;
むすびます/to tighten → むすんで
ひらきます/to open → ひらいて
うちます/to beat → うって
I know you're wondering how these verbs conjugate from mas-form to te-form.
The clue is in the chart below!
Once you become familiar with the melody in the video, change the underlined lyric part to below;

い、、り、って/i, chi, ri, tte
み、、に、んで/mi, bi, ni, nde
いて/kiite
ぎ、いで/gi, ide
し、して/shi, shite
Got it?
As long as you feel comfortable with the Warming Up Chart above, you'll find it easy to start Lesson 17.
がんばってね。
