Understanding Sounds in Katakana 2

1. Similar sounds

There are similar sounds in katakana words. Especially between “B/P”, “D/T”, and “K/G” sounds.  Lesten to the sound and mark the correct katakana each below.

2. Non-Original Japanese Sounds 1

 

There are many loan words which are originated from foreign words in katakana. These words are described in contracted sounds with vowels in small size such as in ;

“フッション (fashion)”, “フアット (Fiat)”, and “ウーター (water)”.

3. Non-Original Japanese Sounds 2

Japanese syllables always come with vowels and consonants together except “ん”. For example, “k” can not be written by itself. By adding vowels like “k + a = ka” as “カ”, “k + i = ki” as “キ”, “k + u = ku” as “ク”, and so on. Then how English words which contain only consonant sounds be written in Japanese as loan words in katakana.

 

You will listen to each word in original English sound twice, then listen to modified Japanese sound twice.
